Hardware Security Modules (HSM) are responsible for generation, maintenance and usage of keys.

Popular use cases

• Android 7.0+ certified devices should include an HSM for storing encrypted cryptographic keys. This is particularly beneficial for storing WebAuthn credentials and encrypted passkeys.
• The TPM chips in motherboards are also a form of HSM.
